Notes: Medical Advice Isn't That Great. Here's How it Could Be Better.

In an ideal world, everyone has access to medical care in a timely manner. In reality, lots of people can't access healthcare because of cost, location, and extreme wait times.

They always say that you can only get medical advice from your doctor. There's laws around it- giving medical advice outside of a medical setting is illegal.

But it also doesn't make sense. After a diagnosis has been identified, a doctor isn't going to say anything different than they would to any other patient. While it is true that some people have multiple conditions where intersection of diagnoses and treatment matters, many doctors do not understand these intersections themselves. Demanding a person seek medical advice in these cases isn't relevant because it simply doesn't exist.

Getting input from doctors on diagnoses is important. Often when people do their own research online they misdiagnose themselves because many illnesses share similiar symptoms.

Beyond this, input from doctors isn't always helpful. In medical school doctors were educated a little bit on a lot of diagnoses. If the diagnosis is rare, there's a good chance they have never heard of it.

Barefoot Doctor Book

***This is especially relevant now that countries dealing with religious extremism are shutting down access to healthcare***

It would have a section on the ideal healthy lifestyle. This is important because most modern illnesses are caused and solved through lifestyles.

It would have a section for each body system. In this section, it would say:

-how the body system works

-the most common illnesses for this body system

-home remedies and over-the counter medication and procedures: everything a doctor would do that a person could do, for things that don't require advanced medical training

It would also include medical information for wilderness survival situations and treating war-related injuries for more extreme situations.

The most common illnesses would be determined by percentage of the population that struggles with it. Chronic or disabling conditions would be specially marked. Each illness would include the most common misdiagnoses.
