Cars contribute to about 15% of climate change- climate change which has killed, displaced, starved, and provoked conflict. Cars kill 1.35 million people per year, and permanently disable many.
Cars take space- specifically, public space that people need to build community. Suburbs are designed for cars, designed for individualism, designed for capitalist property owners. City planning is responsible for solving -or causing- mental illness, crime, violence, addiction, homelessness, and climate change; and we have a crisis in each of those areas.
The solution is public transportation and mixed-use city planning. Add solarpunk and universal design. In the transition it would be important to decriminalize living in a vehicle.
