Resource List: Housing/Workstay

Copy and Pasted from r/roomandboard on reddit. I'm also going to add two videos from someone who has worked in one of these programs as a warning to do your research. When you are interested in a program, make sure to look at honest reviews from people who have done it to understand the pros and cons.

It would be great to organize resources such as this one onto an international website using the resource list website /effective resource list criteria from my other post. Only accesible resources would be put on the site, no non-profits with stringent requirements.

There are a ton of subreddits that bark up the same tree, I'm going to highlight a couple of them to get us started; both r/wwoof, and r/intentionalcommunity and their resources, are global in scope and reach, regardless of disability, finances, and sometimes pets, both resources can be explored by families instead of just one or two people...

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (wwoof), is a loose network of international organizations that facilitate homestays on organic farms.

WWOOF Organizations connect people who want to live and learn on organic farms and smallholdings with people who want to share their lifestyles, teach new skills and welcome volunteer help. There are places in Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East and Oceania.

WWOOF hosts offer food, accommodation and opportunities to stay and learn about organic/biological growing and farming. WWOOF Volunteers give hands on help and have an interest in learning about organic farming and gaining skills in sustainable ways of living.

WWOOF is a network of national organizations. They have local knowledge and up to date information about WWOOF volunteering in their country. To become involved in the WWOOF community either at home or away explore the drop down menu above or list below and connect with the local WWOOF organization directly.

An Intentional Community is a planned residential community designed from the start to have a high degree of social cohesion and teamwork.

The members of an intentional community typically hold a common social, or political, or religious, or spiritual vision and sometimes follow an alternative lifestyle.

They typically share responsibilities and resources. Intentional communities include collective households, cohousing communities, coliving, ecovillages, monasteries, communes, survivalist retreats, kibbutzim, ashrams, and housing cooperatives.

Most people make listings and then forget about them. The best way to get into an intentional community is by networking or starting your own.

Buddhist Monasteries: You can stay at a monastery as a monk/nun or as a lay-person. A lay person does work around the monastery. This is not a good option if you are in debt or disabled. The places I have seen are LGBT+ friendly.
